For Michael, the hardest part of coping with depression was building the courage to talk about his feelings with friends and family.
Growing up in the small country town of Benalla in Victoria, Michael turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism before reaching out for help at the age of 20.
Speaking with wisdom beyond his years, Michael recounts the moment he thought he’d had enough and how diet and exercise, along with support from his parents, helped him manage his emotions and turn his life around.
As Michael says in the video below, “people will respect you for opening up and talking about your problems”.
